Nomination are invited for the NSS Directorate Level Awards 2013-14 for the following categories.

1. BEST NSS Programme Officer & Unit   Entries Closed

2. BEST NSS Volunteer

3. Top Scorer Award : The award is constituted for recognising Academic Acheivements of NSS Volunteers of Technical Cell under Polytechnics Stream/ Engineering Stream.

One volunteer who is very active in NSS, completed minimum 240 hrs of work, attended minimum one special camp and score the maximum marks in that institution among NSS volunteers may be nominated for the award. The nomination(two copies) in the enclosed proforma along with the attested copies of certificates, mark list and two copies of passport size color photographs of the volunteer should reach this office on or before 13.01.2014. The volunteer who have passed during 2013 may be considered for this award.



The following guidelines are to be particularly noted:-

1. The details in the Award Proposal should be in English

2. The proposal should not be more than 100 pages including the Proforma (2 copies with soft copy)

3. Incomplete nomination will be summarily rejected and no correspondence there on will be entertained.

4. The nominations for Best Unit/PO/Volunteer (one outstanding volunteer) should reach

 NSS Volunteers 


(a)       A student should have completed a minimum of two years of volunteership in NSS.


(b)       He/she should have participated in at least two Special Camping Programme and at least once in National Programmes like R.D. Parade Camp in Delhi, National Integration Camps, Mega Camps, National Youth Convention, Suvichar, National Youth Festival, Programmes under RGNIYD ,  Inter-State Youth Exchange Programmes, Adventure Programmes,  etc. sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.


(c)       He/she should not be less than 16 years and more than 25 years in age. In case of SC/ST, the upper age limit can be relaxed by 3 years.


(d)       He/she should have completed 240 hours of community service during two consecutive years of volunteership.


 (e)       His/her academic performance should have been reasonably good.




Main Considerations :


(a)       The student’s reputation as a successful NSS volunteers in the College/School and in the adopted community.


(b)       His/Her punctuality and regularity in NSS Programme.


(c)        His/Her personality and leadership qualities vis-à-vis all the students in the institution.


(d)       His/Her sincerity, dedication and involvement in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the adopted community.


(e)       His/Her outstanding performance in the filed of literacy, environment, social awareness and community development programmes. 



National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.
